Ask on WhatsAppHow do I move to Tenerife from the UK after Brexit?
Since 1 January 2021 the UK is a third country, so every shipment needs a full import declaration. If you transfer your habitual residence to the Canaries, your personal belongings can be relieved from duties and IGIC: as a rule you must have lived outside the EU for at least 12 consecutive months, have used the goods for at least 6 months and import them within 12 months of moving. We check your case and prepare the paperwork (inventory, empadronamiento…).
I got a text saying my parcel (AliExpress, Amazon, Shein…) is held at customs. Do you have it?
No – KLC Aduanas does not receive or store parcels. Postal and courier shipments are held by Correos or the courier (DHL, UPS, SEUR…) until they are cleared, and the notice you received comes from them. To pay or get your parcel delivered, follow the instructions in that notice.
What we can do is prepare the import declaration (DUA) if you are asked for one: send us the tracking number and the invoice or proof of purchase.
Beware: many “parcel held at customs” texts are scams. Always check the status on the official Correos or courier website.
Why do I need customs clearance to ship to Tenerife?
The Canary Islands are part of the EU customs territory but outside the EU VAT area. Goods from mainland Spain or other EU countries pay no customs duty, but they need a customs declaration (DUA) and are taxed with the Canarian IGIC (standard rate 7%) and, for some products, AIEM. Goods from outside the EU, such as the UK, also face customs duties unless they qualify for preferential origin. We prepare and file the declaration for you.
How do I import my car to Tenerife?
Your car travels by road and ferry or in a container. On arrival the customs declaration is filed and the IGIC on the vehicle is paid; from the UK, import duty may apply too. To register it in Spain you also need the registration tax (IEDMT, at Canarian rates), the ITV inspection and DGT registration. We coordinate transport and the customs and tax side, and guide you through the next steps. If you are moving to Tenerife, the car may qualify for transfer-of-residence relief.
Can I bring my household goods to Tenerife tax-free?
Often, yes. If you move your habitual residence to the Canaries, your personal belongings can be exempt from IGIC (and from duties if you come from outside the EU). As a rule you must have used them for at least 6 months, bring them within 12 months of moving and not sell them afterwards. We review your case and prepare the documents.
Do you import goods from China, Asia or South America?
Yes. We handle commercial imports from Asia, the Americas and any other origin: transport, tariff classification, origin documents, duties, IGIC and AIEM. Correct classification and clean paperwork avoid delays and extra costs.
What is IGIC?
IGIC (Impuesto General Indirecto Canario) is the Canary Islands’ equivalent of VAT. The standard rate is 7%, with reduced and increased rates depending on the product; vehicles have their own rates. We calculate and handle it for you on every import.
